KS '60 SENIORS

Aloha mai, KS ’60 Seniors…

Well, what can we say?  It was one wild train ride from beginning to end.  The Fun Train from Emeryville (Oakland) to Reno was more than we bargained for. There were 48 of us (of the original 60 who signed up) who will remember for years to come, the laughter, the songs, the dances, and the love that were shared among the group.  The Fun Train will never be the same…and, there were actually winners in Reno.  We missed classmate, Noe`au Guerreiro, who made arrangements for the trip and whose untimely passing on January 8, 2008 filled our hearts with sadness.  A memorial service was held in Oakland at the Inn at Jack London Square for Noe…as we gathered to remember him and say Aloha Oe.  Georgie Ho`okano Kahalehoe did the opening Oli, and scripture readers were Chuck von Arnswaldt and Billy Lyman.  KS ’60 Halau dancers, Eleanor Cashman Stevens, Shirley Kahapea Shimaoka, Frances Espinda Mahoe, and Meleana Hueu Aloy danced to E Nani Venuse and Lei Nani. Testimonies followed by classmates who shared about their friendship with Noe.

Others making the Fun Train Ride/San Francisco Visit were: Albert and Florence Apo, Nalei and Elaine Antone, Ainsley and Carol Chandler, Cynthia Luana Tong Chong, Tiare Jamile Miyasato, Joanna Collins Kaalele, Mary Jane Kong Doyle, Bill and Eileen Lyman, Jeffrey Peterson, Redge and Linda Roberts, James and Joan Sette, Gabriel and Faith Tam Shiroma, Patricia Okada and Hal Summers, Iwalani Perez Whitmarsh, Melmanette Kawelo Worthington, Eloise Choy-Hee Thompson, and guests Nalani Hueu Kaauamo ’67, Lucille Masuko ’60 Lahainaluna, Chandler’s: Wade and Cindy and Julia S. Sueoka, Almar Napuelua, Ken Duffy, Charles Mahoe ’58, Albert Johansen ’58, Redge Roberts, II, Laurene Cockett, Bobbie von Arnswaldt, Carol Dunaway ’53, Alexander and France Morris, Nolan and Wai Lan Grace.

After nearly 45 years, we were very happy to see and visit with classmate, Annette Ku`ulani Kamiko Baron who lives in Oakland.
