Decade of the '70s Maui Reunion - August 17-19, 2007
Mahalo to the Atay `Ohana for a wonderful Decade of the 1970s Reunion in Maui, August 17-19, 2007. The group, led by our own Don Atay, and including brothers and sisters Alika, Carlton, Kapi'olani (Donna), Cara and Denise, put together an awesome weekend full of lots of ono food, wonderful music and kanikapila, and fun and fellowship with alumni from the 1970s. Included and optional activities included:
A visit to the Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus was arranged, and students offered an official welcome.
1977 Alumna Lee Ann Johansen Delima, Headmaster of the Maui Campus, offered her own special welcome to the tour group.
A Portion of Kamehameha I's rallying cry to his warriors, "I Mua E Na Poki`i," graces the entrance to the hugh school campuse, a gift from the first graduating class of 2006.
Economics students operate the campus' school store which offers KS logo wear and accessories.
The graduates paused for group photo outside the dining hall.
Friday night's festivities at the VFW site in Kihei included an 'awa ceremony conducted by Don and brother Alika.
A representative from each class sat in the circle and took a turn speaking on behalf of their classmates. Lana Smith ably represented and spoke for the Class of 1970.
The gracious ladies of 1971 danced to home-grown music provided by alumni.
