Who Are We?
The Kamehameha Schools Parent and Alumni Relations (PAR) Department is here to serve the parents and graduates of Kamehameha Schools. Our staff comes with years of experience and expertise in parent and alumni relations. Collectively, we bring to the department a commitment of diligence and dedication to Kamehameha and the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.

 

 

 

 

 

Laurielei Waracka

Laurielei, or Laurie, is the Administrative Coordinator for PAR, serving both Parents and Alumni programs. A recent addition to the PAR office, Laurie brings her experience, enthusiasm and smile to the department. A 1981 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and a 1985 graduate of Chaminade University, she is happy to be back home at Kapalama. Daughter, Amber, is currently a Junior at Kamehameha and a member of the varsity softball team. Laurie and husband, Doug, have very busy schedules as they enjoy being active participants in the lives of their three children, including son, Logan (13) and daughter, Jordyn (11), who attend St. Anthony School in Kailua.

Hawley Cappo,
Parent Volunteer Specialist and Parent Educator

Hawley-Ann Cappo joined the Parents & Alumni Relations Department in January, 2003, as the new Parent Volunteer Specialist and Parent Educator. A KS employee for over ten years, Hawley’s service at the Middle School and her ability to relate to parents and families has been a great asset to PAR. Hawley is the mother of three Kamehameha students: Ciara ’01, Danson ’06, and Lynsey ’07. She has worked with parent groups and organizations including serving as class parent for the Class of 2001 for six years. Hawley and her husband, Danny, are enthusiastic supporters of their children’s extra-curricular activities and are always the first to lend a hand and participate. Hawley’s favorite color is cobalt blue! When visiting the PAR office, look for the "blue everything" desk and you’ll likely to be greeted by Hawley’s welcoming smile and can-do spirit.

Michelle Kuulei Detol,
Database Assistant & Website Specialist

Michelle Kuulei Detol is our Database Assistant and Website Specialist she has been a member of the PAR team since 2000. She keeps the PAR website current and alive with the latest news, photos and information. Need an address or name change made to the alumni database? Contact Michelle and she’ll assist you in updating your record on . Born on the windward side of O`ahu, Michelle now resides on the West Side of O'ahu raising her daughter Leichelle who was born March 2007.

Gerry Johansen,
Alumni Administrator

A member of KS ’60, Gerry has been part of the Kamehameha family for over 45 years. At Kamehameha she has served as the first secretary of the Physical Plant Division, was Assistant to the Director of Financial Aid and Special Services, Financial Aid Specialist and Counselor with the Native Hawaiian Higher Education Program. Gerry now serves as Alumni Relations Administrator. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Hawai`i and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at Chaminade University of Honolulu. She is married to Albert K. Johansen, Jr. KS ’58 and they have two daughters: Tanya-Ann Johansen KS ’91 and Michelle Kahealani Johansen KS ’98.

Mervlyn Kitashima,
Parent Coordinator

Mervlyn (Merv) has been the Parent Coordinator at Kamehameha since September 2001. She brings many years of parent and family involvement experience from her 16 years of service in the DOE as a Parent Community Networking Center district, school and state level facilitator. A 1973 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, her passion for parent and family involvement is motivated by the fact that she is a mother of seven children, and grandmother of eight. She is a Certified Parenting Instructor and a national speaker on the subject of Resilience. She loves to shop, travel with husband Dan (1971) and spend time with her family.
