| Students
away at college welcome a Kamehameha "Home Away from
Home".
Host Family Networking: Need
a friendly and familiar face to keep you connected to Kamehameha
while in college? If the answer is yes, then the College Support
Network is just what you need. KS alumni on the mainland are
ready to serve as host families for our graduates pursuing
higher education away from Hawaii. Families are matched with
students so that they have a "home away from home"
and a place to escape to from the rigors and regimentation
of the academic environment. A great way for alumni helping
alumni.

"I neva ask the question because I shame..."
College Connection: When
students enter college for the first time, there are specific
unanswered questions about their choice of school, the services
and support they can expect, something about the area, etc.
that they may want to hear firsthand. What better way to find
the answers to their questions than from KS graduates who
are currently students at that particular college. The College
Connection provides an opportunity for entering college freshmen
to get to know other KS students on campus while at the same
time provide a smooth transition from high school to college.
This informal "talk story" session is for both students
and parents and allows each group to share experiences, anxieties,
frustrations and healthy, positive feedback. College Connection
is held every summer during the months of June or July.
Previewing College and Career Choices with KS Alumni Representatives
KS Campus College and Career Fair:
Our own Kamehameha Campus College and Career Fair.
Over 50 colleges and universities on the mainland and in Hawaii
participate at the fair. KS alumni in their different vocations
represent different careers. Recent KS graduates enrolled
at the various post-high institutions serve as representatives
of their respective campuses. Student and parent panelists
share their experiences. The fair is held every year during
the Christmas break and invitations are extended to all students
and parents in grades 7-12.
Making a Difference by Word of Mouth
KS Alumni Speakers Bureau:
One way of giving back to Kamehameha is by way of the KS Alumni
Speakers Bureau. During the academic year, KS alumni return
to campus and speak to students on different careers and professions
by sharing their experiences in their respective fields. Whether
it be in the fields of medicine, law, hotel management, business,
airline industry, architect, agriculture, computers, investments,
education, culinary arts, auto mechanics, tourism, etc., KS
alumni are encouraged to become involved and join our pool
of speakers.
Never Too Late to Learn
KS Alumni Adult Education Program
(non-traditional students): So you've been out of high
school for a few years and now want to go to college but don't
know how or where to begin? This program will get you started.
KS alumni who are college admissions and financial aid counselors
will provide guidance and information on pursuing that dream
of completing a college education.
